현대의학은 한 개인의 건강문제를 종합적으로 상당, 진찰하기 보다는 개별 장기, 기관별로 나누어 진료하기 때문에 상호 관련성이 있는 증상이라 할지라도 여러 전문과목 외래를 방문,
많은 의사에게 나누어서 진료를 받아야 하는 불편함이 있습니다. 가정의학은 이러한 요구에 따라 도입된 새로운 전문 분야로 질병의 종류, 연령 등에 관계없이 지속적이고 포괄적인
의료서비스 제공을 목표로 하는 전문과목 입니다.

가정의학 전문의는 흔히 발생하는 대부분의 질환을 치료하고 상담합니다.
체지방, 대사 검사, 복부 지방 측정, 식사 일지를 통하여 체지방을 중심으로 감량 프로그램 <병적 비만, 수면 무호흡성 비만, 청소년 비만, 제2당뇨, 이상지질혈증, 고혈압,
관상동맥질환 (협심증, 심근경색증), 지방간, 담낭질환, 통풍, 골관절염, 월경이상, 대장암, 유방암, 난소암>

가정의학 전문의는 질병의 예방, 재활 및 건강증진을 위해 노력합니다.
가정의학 전문의는 종합검진을 포함한 평생 건강관리 프로그램, 각종 예방접종과 건강상담, 또한 패경기, 비만, 금연, 스포츠의학 등 다각적 접근으로
질병의 조기 발견과 치료, 재활, 예방을 위해 노력합니다.
